Bindjareb Pinjarra: A landmark WA play taken back to the national stage

Bindjareb Pinjarra will tour nationally after becoming Western Australia's longest running theatre production with performances to more than 25,000 people. Eight years since its conception Bindjareb Pinjarra continues to demonstrate the perfect fusion of history, outrageous comedy and physical theatre.

Created and performed by Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, this incredible theatre experience will have you in fits of laughter, questioning your judgements and opening your heart and mind while the differing perspectives are explored.

"Bindjareb Pinjarra is a significant production for Western Australia due to the historical value that it presents as well as it being a work of true collaboration by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists," says Jessica Machin, Chief Executive Officer for Country Arts WA. "Bindjareb Pinjarra has offered a platform where a previously taboo subject could be explored, discussed and shared in a public forum, which can offer incredible outcomes for the communities involved."

Cooee Cabaret - the Sounds of Australia live on stage

The National Film and Sound Archive's (NFSA) Sounds of Australia will be brought to life on stage in Mandurah, Margaret River, Bunbury and Perth when Cooee Cabaret tours Western Australia for the first time 22 - 30 May 2012.

Cooee Cabaret is a fun and original show that takes the audience on a journey through Australia's most iconic songs and sounds. It will feature (in some locations) unique West Australian Sounds of Australia including the 1943 maiden parliamentary speech of Dorothy Tangney.

Local performers will also bring a West Australian flavour to each show with actors performing extracts from Dorothy Tangney's speech, a local flautist showcasing original compositions and a quirky opera rendition of a Kylie Minogue hit.

You can find out more about Cooee Cabaret at www.nfsa.gov.au

Marnti warajanga - a walk together

The Marnti warajanga - a walk together exhibition is touring the Pilbara in May.

This project consists of the redeveloped exhibition and a series of photography workshops and community celebration events. To house blog posts written by the Marnti warajanga exhibition team, photographs produced by indigenous communities at the photography workshops and to allow online visitors to comment on their experience of the exhibition, the museum has developed a Pilbara tour section on the existing Marnti warajanga exhibition website.

Take the time to have a look at the Pilbara tour website

est and Beyond the Brick

est. shines a light on a new generation of artists, both emerging and established, who have been influenced by the nature of their easterly location. Showcasing the incredible diversity of work that continues to flow from this region, the exhibition highlights developments in visual arts trends.

Younger artists who are also influenced by their location will present Beyond the Brick in Gallery 2. This annual sneak preview of works by recent graduates from high schools across the Perth Hills region documents a time in their lives when they are about to enter a wider realm of artistic exploration. The works represented in Beyond the Brick are an honest exploration of both idea and method; techniques and lessons learned, demonstrating each artist's journey from a student towards their creative future.

More information can be found on their website
Mundaring Arts Centre Exhibition open 27 April - 3 June.
